My Coronavirus Easter in Thailand

Just a quick hello on this lovely Corona Easter!

It’s always hard to be away from home during a holiday. Two years ago I spent Thanksgiving in Bristol, and last year I was in India! Yet, during a global pandemic, in isolation on the other side of the world, I feel extra far away from home this year.

My family is spread far and wide at the moment, scattered across continents: me in Thailand, my sister in England, my dad in Florida and my mom in New Jersey. Despite the distance, it feels like we talk more now than when I was living at home.

There’s nothing that can replace the warmth of a hug or the ringing of laughter in person, but technology today has played a huge role in maintaining our connection. A quick Zoom or Skype call brings us in the same room again, if only for just a few moments.

When the days are long and stillness echoes in my room, missing my family feels inevitable. There are days when the distance seems extraneous, but I am thankful to have people in my life who will always be there for me, despite the miles between us.

This Easter, my heart is with friends and family around the world. It may be physically far, but that doesn’t mean we can’t keep each other close in thought. This year, instead of looking to the negatives, I hope we chose to focus on just how grateful we are for one another.
